The Blood Donor Center, located on the first floor of St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, accepts whole blood and platelet apheresis, designated and autologous donations. Antologous services are available with physician orders.

Comprehensive mobile blood drives are offered with a completely self-contained, five-bed mobile donor coach, or on-site set up with up to 20 donor beds.

About Blood Donation
St. Luke's Blood Donor Center has created a brief summary of informtion about blood donation.  The one-page sheet can be viewed with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader .  This information can be viewed in English or in Spanish.

Eligibility
To be eligible to donate blood you must:

  • be 17 years old minimum, (there is no upper age limit);   
  • weigh at least 110 pounds; and   
  • be in general good health.

If you are currently taking any medications:

  • Acceptable medications: OTC medications, blood pressure medications, oral medications for diabetes, hormone replacement medications, allergy medications, anti-inflammatory, pain medications, antibiotics for acne (except Accutane), topical medications, anti-depressants
  • Unacceptable medications: heart regulating medication, anti-coagulants, antibiotic therapy (eligible for donation 48 hours after completion of medication), long-term steroid therapy

St. Luke’s Blood Management and Conservation Program uses proven, state-of-the-art techniques and specialized equipment to reduce or eliminate the need for blood transfusion. The reduction of blood transfusions, which can be life-saving and will be used when necessary with a patient’s consent, reduces exposure to potential risks. Research has shown that blood conservation is a more safe and cost-effective approach to patient care. Learn more about this program online.

The Blood Donor Center is open:
   Mon. - Fri: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
   Sat: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

New Location
The Blood Donor Center is now located in Room C110 on the first floor of St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital next to the green elevators.  St. Luke’s valet parking or parking at any Texas Medical Center parking garage is available.

Accreditation
St. Luke's is registered with the Food and Drug Administration and is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks and College of American Pathologists. St. Luke's participates in the National Blood Exchange Program.
