St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital Marks Demolition of Original 1954 Building
St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital recently celebrated the demolition of its original 1954 building with a 1950s-themed reception. The special event was attended by guest speakers and included the retrieval and opening of the hospital’s Time Capsule, which was placed in the building's cornerstone in 1954. The original building will be replaced by a new, state-of-the-art patient care center.

Texas Heart® Institute Receives $2.8 Million Grant to Develop Total Artificial Heart
A $2.8 million National Institutes of Health grant to the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital will fund development of a novel “pulse-less” total artificial heart. Unlike previous heart-assist pumps that duplicated the pulse of the natural heart, this experimental device uses two small ventricular-assist devices that pump blood continuously.
